Hygiene with radicular levigature

Radicular smoothing is performed on patients with detachment, lowering and inflammation of the gums. With presence of a lot of under gingival tartar and deep periodontal pockets (over 5mm.). Generally speaking smoothing is an invasive procedure for this reason is performed under aesthetic.

Patients undergoing smoothing should first undergo a traditional oral hygiene session, which reduces gum bleeding and evaluates the possible use of antibiotic and anti-inflammatory therapy and the use of specific mouthwashes and gel. Before any smoothing work is carried out, it is good practise to do a periodontal survey complete with the appropriate periodontal probe.

It would be good, in the most disastrous cases, to take before and after photos, both as a case study and as a demonstration to the patient. At the end of the session, the patient is encouraged by brushing techniques and with various manual instruments such as floss and the use of mouthwashes and gingival gels. It is therefore the task of the hygienist or doctor to control the presence of interstitial caries or anomalies such as debuting of a composite reconstruction.
